As a result of his visionary leadership, a student-centered culture rooted in innovation and excellence has emerged – successfully preparing the College to adapt and respond to future needs.
The Legacy of Leadership Campaign is a volunteer-driven effort to pay tribute to Dr. Church's decades of service. The Legacy of Leadership Campaign is a volunteer-driven effort to pay tribute to Dr. Church's decades of service not only to Lorain County Community College but to our region, state, and the higher education sector. This campaign will ensure this unique culture of innovation and collaboration continues to influence future generations of leaders by establishing an endowed fund to support a Leadership Institute designed to attract renowned visionary leaders, at least annually, to campus for keynotes at conferences, events and professional development. The Institute will enable Dr. Church's innovative spirit to continue to positively impact our college and community, sparking new ideas to address real-world issues affecting the region.
Please join us in recognizing the profound impact Dr. Church's leadership has had on our college and our community.

Vision for the Future

Throughout his 29 years at Lorain County Community College, Dr. Church has consistently engaged the community in the college's strategic planning process. In 1989, Church initiated this effort with months of "listening and learning" sessions that enabled the community to drive the college's strategic direction. This led to Vision 2000 and established a new bar for how the college connected to the community. Since that time, the college's strategic plan was updated through an ever-expanding stakeholder engagement process in 1997, 2005 and 2012. The most recent strategic plan, Vision 2020, sets the college's direction for the next five years and was adopted by the District Board of Trustees on September 24, 2015. Cornerstones of Impact

Overview:  Vision + Action = Impact

Dr. Church is recognized not only as a leader with an optimistic vision for the future, but is well-known and respected for taking action, along with a few risks, tapping into his entrepreneurial side and rallying others behind an idea. Throughout the years, Dr. Church has initiated unique approaches to fulfilling the four cornerstones of the comprehensive community college mission: education, economic, community and cultural development.
His impact described in each of these four areas is a testament to the entire community – campus and citizens – banding together to turn vision into reality. He is often heard saying, "No one person or organization has all the resources needed to advance a community. It takes collaboration, partnership and trust; each of us contributing what we can to the effort and sharing equally in its success."

Education Cornerstone

Education
Cornerstone
Under Dr. Church's leadership, Lorain County Community College's academic programs are dynamic, every-changing and based on market research related to business needs and job forecasts. The curriculum today maintains a balance between Arts and Sciences offerings to prepare students to transfer successfully into bachelor degree programs as well as numerous Applied Degree Programs/Certificates to prepare students for direct career entry.

Economic Cornerstone

Economic
Cornerstone
Recognizing the need in our community to not only prepare talent with strong skills, but to also help grow companies that create good-paying jobs, Church led the development of the most robust portfolio for supporting innovation and entrepreneurship of any community college in the country. This persistent commitment led to the development and expansion of the Great Lakes Technology Park, Nord Advanced Technology Center, GLIDE (technology incubator on campus), FabLab, Innovation Fund, Blackstone LaunchPad and the Desich SMART Commercialization Center.

Cultural Cornerstone

Cultural
Cornerstone
During an interview just two weeks after he first arrived to campus, Church states one of the reasons he was attracted to Lorain County Community College was the college's commitment "to enhance cultural development with the Stocker Center...the college has already put together a physical location that sends clear signals of the importance of education and arts." Church continued that commitment to the arts through arts education and cultural enhancement.

Community Cornerstone

Community
Cornerstone
The newly adopted Vision 2020 strategic plan for Lorain County Community College is a refreshed values statement to clearly define who the college is to this community. It reads... "We are the community's college. We are trusted by the community to educate, lead and inspire. We create a better, more sustainable future for our community."
Church, throughout his role as President, has embodied this idea in his leadership and his actions. That is clearly evident in the example Dr. Church set by reaching out the community to partner with others to address challenges and opportunities; he opened the resources of the college as the community's asset to utilize.

Strong College, Strong Campus

While leading the college toward a vision for the future, Dr. Church applied his strong business sense as CEO of the institution to ensure the college and campus remained fiscally and operationally strong, as well as good stewards of the community's resources and trust.

"It is hard to believe that we have known each other for thirty years. The success and the acclaim that has been visited upon our community college as a result of your leadership is difficult to capture in mere words. I believe it is better captured by the achievements of thousands of students and entrepreneurs who have walked through the doors of LCCC. The community owes you more than what a paycheck can ever repay to you for your efforts. And, I might add your one on one basketball game wasn't so bad either. I certainly hope you and Bobbie remain a part of our community forever. Tony"

"The most inspiring leader LCCC has ever had will be leaving us in a few weeks, but his accomplishments and vision will remain with us. Personally, I am very grateful for having the opportunity to work with such a fine all-around man. He has given us direction and inspiration and made a difference in our lives. I am a better accountant and a better person thanks to him. In terms of profit and loss, his retirement is a loss for the college, but a profit for his family. I wish him a new journey of success and happiness in this new page of his life. May he be showered with abundant opportunities to do what his heart desires and a retirement full of health and happiness! "

Georgio Efpraxias
